Jesus took sharp opposition to "The Word" as was represented by the religious 'authorities' of His time and place!...
'Christians' who support the colonialist occupation of Palestine and subjugation and eradication of the Palestinian people are not only anachronistic (out of date) but anti-Christian! As much as Jesus challenged 'The Word of God' as upheld by the Pharisees, the religious authorities of His day, those false 'Christians' making claims that Jesus supports 'ethnic cleansing' and genocide must likewise be challenged and set straight!
Jesus continually challenged the brutal interpretation of 'The Word' as represented by the religious experts of His day. When they tested Him by bringing a woman to Him who was accused of adultery and claiming that, "Teacher, this woman was caught in the act of adultery. In the Law, Moses commanded us to stone such a woman. So what do You say?” John 8:4, 5 Jesus's response was: “Let him who is without sin among you be the first to cast a stone at her.” And again He bent down and wrote on the ground.
When they heard this, they began to go away one by one, beginning with the older ones, until only Jesus was left, with the woman standing there. Then Jesus straightened up and asked her, “Woman, where are your accusers? Has no one condemned you?”
“No one, Lord,” she answered.
“Then neither do I condemn you,” Jesus declared. “Now go and sin no more.” John 8:7–11
This is only one example of Jesus directly opposing 'The Word' as was interpreted by the religious 'authorities'. Yet still today we have false Christians who put their interpretation of 'The Word' over the true Word of God who is Jesus! Idolatry is when ANYTHING is put ahead of the Lord, the Living God! That includes any ideology including any interpretation of scripture that is not illuminated by the true Word of God, by the Spirit of the risen Jesus! Jesus directly challenged the notion of an "eye for an eye" that is no longer any part of the true Word of God that Jesus is:
"You have heard that it was said, ‘Eye for eye and tooth for tooth.’ But I tell you not to resist an evil person. If someone slaps you on your right cheek, turn to him the other also!" Matthew 5:38, 39
False 'Christians' who put their interpretation of scripture over the Lord Jesus, the true Word of God, deny the power of Jesus's death and resurrection and the New Covenant that Jesus established between His Father and those of the New Creation as Paul clearly identifies: "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new!" 2 Corinthians 5:17
Christians, let us not fall back to old ways, let us not try to put the 'New Wine' that is the Spirit of the Risen Jesus and His Voice in 'old wine skins'!
"And no one pours new wine into old wineskins. If he does, the wine will burst the skins, and both the wine and the wineskins will be ruined. Instead, new wine is poured into new wineskins!” Mark 2:22
Finally, "This is not the way you came to know Christ. Surely you heard of Him and were taught in Him—in keeping with the truth that is in Jesus— to put off your former way of life, your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be RENEWED IN THE SPIRIT OF YOUR MIND; and to put on the NEW SELF, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness!" Ephesians 4:20-24
Let us not be deceived, let us not fall back to old ways! Jesus said, "I am the Way the Truth and the Life! John 14:6
"I am the Light of the world!" John 9:5
Jesus is the New Wine and we the new vessels!
